Ozil: Supplication prevents me from repeating the German national anthem

The German-born German national Massoud Ozil has been criticized for not having spoken to the German national anthem since joining the German national team.

"When I start playing the national anthem, I start praying, and I am sure that this spiritual focus gives me strength and provides the team with strength to win," Ozil said in an interview with the German daily Der Visten. "Since I was a little boy, I pray and pray before every game, and I still do it today," Ozil said.

The 29-year-old German has been surprised by some players' judgments, although they do not know why they do not chant the national anthem before the game.

The former German international Luther Matthaus has sparked controversy recently after he said that Ozil is playing without heart and without passion for the German national team, "giving the impression of not comfortable with the German shirt."

But there is a response to Matthaus, saying that Ozil's achievements with the German team talk about him, the player has played 90 internationals scored 23 goals and won with Germany in the World Cup and the semi-finals three times.
